BeeNotes is a Chrome extension for saving timestamped notes and screenshots from YouTube videos. It is made by ClexTech.

Stays on your device

Your notes, screenshots and bookmarks are stored only in your browser (chrome.storage.local). They are never uploaded.

Sent when you export

Your PDF is created on your device. After it's ready, we send the video ID and the times of your notes to our server (beenotes-api.clextech.com) to build a public library of popular moments. Exactly what's sent:

  • the YouTube video ID
  • the export format
  • the times of your notes, in whole seconds
  • the extension version
  • a random ID created for that single export, used only to ignore duplicate retries

Never sent: note text, screenshots, video titles, or anything that identifies you.

On the server, we don't store your IP address or browser details. Your IP is used briefly in memory, as a one-way hash that changes daily, to limit abuse. Times are stored rounded to the hour. Reports are kept indefinitely because they can't be linked to you. They power a public Popular Moments library and an anonymous research dataset. A moment is only published once at least 3 people have bookmarked it.

Usage analytics

To understand how the extension is used, BeeNotes sends basic usage events to Umami Cloud: install/update, popup opened, note added, export (format and number of notes), and notes cleared. Each event includes your browser language, the extension version and a random install ID stored in your browser. These events never include video IDs, titles, notes or screenshots.

Other services

Requests pass through Cloudflare for security and performance, and Umami Cloud processes the analytics events. Both handle network data, such as IP addresses, under their own privacy policies.

What we never do

We never sell or share your data, use it for advertising, or use it to determine creditworthiness.

Permissions

  • storage: saves your notes locally.
  • unlimitedStorage: lets screenshots exceed Chrome's default 10 MB local limit. They still stay on your device.
  • Access to youtube.com: adds the note button, captures screenshots on video pages, and reads the YouTube tab's address to know which video your notes belong to.

Your choices

Uninstalling BeeNotes deletes everything stored in your browser, including the random install ID. Export reports aren't linked to you, and analytics events are linked only to that random ID, never to your name, email or Google account.
